The Story Behind the Oushak Afghan Chobi Hand Knotted Rug

Uşak, in western Anatolia, wove carpets for the Ottoman court and for export for centuries, and its name, Oushak in the rug trade, has come to mean large flowers set wide apart on a light ground. This Chobi version, knotted in Pakistan, places red, green, ivory and navy palmettes across a pale sky-blue field, inside a sand-coloured border.

Construction: Hand Knotted
Every knot tied by hand on a loom, then cut to make the pile.
Knot: Senneh knot
The asymmetrical knot, also called the Persian knot. The yarn wraps one warp thread, which allows finer detail.
Density: 101–140 knots per square inch
Knots in every square inch. The higher the count, the finer the detail and the longer the rug takes to knot.
Pile: Low pile
