The Story Behind Cinder

Cinder takes its colour from a fire burned down. Strands of black, grey and brown knotted side by side leave fine streaks across the field, like embers going dark. The wool is undyed, kept in the sheep's own colours, and knotted by hand, with a grey-green fringe at each end.

How it was made

Construction: Hand Knotted
Every knot tied by hand on a loom, then cut to make the pile.
Knot: Senneh knot
The asymmetrical knot, also called the Persian knot. The yarn wraps one warp thread, which allows finer detail.
Density: 50–80 knots per square inch
Knots in every square inch. The higher the count, the finer the detail and the longer the rug takes to knot.
