Review

It’s my first purchase from Imam Carpets and I’m happy that I found a very reputable and genuine place to shop online without a fear of being cheated in terms of quality.

The Story Behind the Gabbeh Overdyed Hand Knotted Rug

Gabbeh weavers have always built rugs from blocks of plain colour, a habit from the nomads of Iran's Zagros mountains. This modern Gabbeh sets a grid of lilac squares, ruled with fine red lines, inside a deep violet-blue frame, and overdyeing gives the whole rug a glowing, uneven depth. The pile leans one way, so the blues shift as you walk around it.

How it was made

Construction: Hand Knotted
Every knot tied by hand on a loom, then cut to make the pile.
Knot: Ghiordes knot
The symmetrical knot, also called the Turkish knot. The yarn wraps two warp threads, which gives a firm pile.
Density: 81–100 knots per square inch
Knots in every square inch. The higher the count, the finer the detail and the longer the rug takes to knot.
Pile: Low pile
Material: Wool
