The Story Behind the Afghan Chobi Hand Woven Kilim Rug

Kilims like this come from northern Afghanistan, where Uzbek and Turkmen families have long woven flat rugs for floors and bedding and sold them in the bazaars of towns like Maimana. Afghan weavers keep the craft going on both sides of the border. Here a field of small stepped diamonds in pink, blue, saffron and teal is closed by red and blue sawtooth edges, in wool coloured with natural dyes, and either side can face up.
