The Story Behind the Khurjeen Afghan Chobi Hand Knotted Rug

Khorjeen, or khurjin, is the word for the saddlebags Afghan tribes wove to carry their goods, and this rug design takes its look from their faces: horizontal bands of small tribal motifs, one after another. This Chobi version runs bands of red, blue, saffron, ivory and sky across the whole rug, each packed with tiny diamonds, stars and dots, so the rug reads like a shelf of folded textiles.

Construction: Hand Knotted
Every knot tied by hand on a loom, then cut to make the pile.
Knot: Ghiordes knot
The symmetrical knot, also called the Turkish knot. The yarn wraps two warp threads, which gives a firm pile.
Density: 101–140 knots per square inch
Knots in every square inch. The higher the count, the finer the detail and the longer the rug takes to knot.
Pile: Low pile
