Review

It’s my first purchase from Imam Carpets and I’m happy that I found a very reputable and genuine place to shop online without a fear of being cheated in terms of quality.

The Story Behind the Persian Hamadan Overdyed Hand Knotted Rug

Hamadan, in western Iran, is the market for the rugs of the many villages around it, known for sturdy wool and bold geometric medallions. We gave this one a vintage wash, washing it and shearing the pile low for a faded, distressed look, so its colours softened to ivory and grey and the medallion, corners and border remain as a pale drawing. It fits under a coffee table with a three-seat sofa, or under a dining table for six.

How it was made

Construction: Hand Knotted
Every knot tied by hand on a loom, then cut to make the pile.
Knot: Senneh knot
The asymmetrical knot, also called the Persian knot. The yarn wraps one warp thread, which allows finer detail.
Density: 101–140 knots per square inch
Knots in every square inch. The higher the count, the finer the detail and the longer the rug takes to knot.
Pile: Zero pile
Material: Wool
