Review

It’s my first purchase from Imam Carpets and I’m happy that I found a very reputable and genuine place to shop online without a fear of being cheated in terms of quality.

The Story Behind Florea

Florea is laid out like a carved wooden door: eight panels, each holding a diamond, inside borders of stepped lines. There is almost no colour to tell them apart, so the design shows through the carving alone. Knotted by hand in undyed wool and cut to two heights, it changes through the day as the light moves across it.

How it was made

Construction
Hand Knotted

Every knot tied by hand on a loom, then cut to make the pile.

Knot
Ghiordes knot

The symmetrical knot, also called the Turkish knot. The yarn wraps two warp threads, which gives a firm pile.

Density
81–100 knots per square inch

Knots in every square inch. The higher the count, the finer the detail and the longer the rug takes to knot.

Pile
High-low pile, Plush

What to look for

  • Abrash

Hand-dyed in small batches, so the colour shifts gently across the rug. Rug makers call this abrash.

  • Light one way, dark the other

The colour looks deeper when you face the pile and lighter from the other end.

  • Undyed wool

Natural wool colours, with no dye.

  • Textured pile

Parts of the pile are carved by hand to different heights.
