Gabbeh is a type of Persian rug originating from Farsi province of southwest Iran. These coarse, unprocessed carpets are hand-woven using wool and natural plant dyes. Crafted by Ghashghai nomads, Gabbeh rugs are renowned for their unique patterns and are known to be thicker than other Persian carpets, reaching up to 2.5 cm in height.

The patterns of the carpet are of a simple type with only a few elements of decorative, mostly rectangular objects containing animals. During the last decades, the weavers have had to meet the demands of the west and have therefore, resorted to using large light fields with chary pattering in the Gabbeh carpets.
