The Story Behind the Antique Afghan Hand Woven Kilim Runner

Banded kilims are one of the most practical layouts in Afghan weaving: stripes of colour laid across the warp, broken by rows of small woven motifs, built up line by line on the loom. This antique runner has the soft, uneven colour of a piece that has lived on a floor, its bands of brown, ochre, plum and rust crossed by narrow rows of ivory and pink figures. It has no pile, and turns over to use from either side.
